RALEIGH – The NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will host a farmers meeting for NC growers interested in selling fresh produce and grocery items to Harris Teeter. The meeting will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension’s Cabarrus County Center in Concord on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The department is committed to helping farmers find new markets for their products,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “These farmers meetings offer local growers a chance to meet with major retailers, one-on-one, in a way that they not otherwise get.”
Mark Hilton, the vice president of produce and floral for Harris Teeter, will give an overview of Harris Teeter’s guidelines for selling to its stores. In addition, category specialists can answer farmers’ specific questions about purchasing requirements. Lunch will be provided.
The event is free, but registration is required. Registration is due before February 2. To register, contact Tony Haywood, NCDA&CS retail marketing specialist, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-707-3140.
