On Thursday, May 3, Stanly County 4-H hosted a County Activity Day. This event is intended to showcase 4-H’ers oratorical skills and various talents through a presentation competition and talent show.
The evening started out with 3 rooms of presentations. Over 20 youth had the opportunity to speak for 5-12 minutes on topics which interest them. We had a wide variety of presentation topics from horses
to horticulture to Supreme Court cases. All 1st and 2nd place winners between the ages of 9-18 (as of January 1, 2018) are invited to present at District Activity Day on June 19th. Thank you to our presentation judges: Dustin Adcock, Jera Lance, Donna Miller, and Leah Joyner.
Presentations were followed by a meal and a short awards ceremony for the presentation winners.
The meal was followed with a talent show featuring 10 of our talented 4-H’ers. Mandolinists, a fiddle player, pianists, and dancers showcased their outstanding talents. Judges Donna Miller and Miss Stanly County Outstanding Teen, Mackenzie Page, deliberated and awarded Jonah Chaney (fiddle) with 1st place and Ethan Tarlton (mandolin) with 2nd place. Both of these young men will represent Stanly County in the District Activity Day talent showcase.
