5 Tips for a Healthier Holiday Feast!

Just because a holiday feast is healthy doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious!! Today we shared several recipes on our monthly Extension in the Kitchen Cooking Show that demonstrate how to make a lighter, nutritious, and well-rounded meal this holiday season. If you would prefer to make your own recipes, then keep these 5 tips in mind to make your own nutritious and well-balanced holiday feast:

  1. Think about the MyPlate; do you have all 5 food groups represented (i.e. fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy).
  2. Cover half your plate with fruits and vegetables.
  3. Choose low-fat dairy.
  4. Cut back on the sugar (ex. if a recipe calls for 1 cup, try it with 3/4 cup).
  5. Drink water!
