jar of peanut butterIn conjunction with N.C. A&T State University’s Small Farms Week, McDowell County along with other County Centers across the state will be hosting a food drive through February. Food insecurity was an issue before COVID-19, but the pandemic has resulted in more food insecurity.

We are asking for donations of peanut butter or monetary donations.

Donations will be delivered to the Foothills Food Hub who have been hosting food distributions throughout the county since the beginning of the pandemic. You can drop off your peanut butter at the N.C. Cooperative Extension of McDowell County office. We hope to have other drop off sites as well.

Remember, the next time you shop, grab a few extra jars of peanut butter.

Fun Peanut Facts

  • Peanut butter contains a lot of protein and fiber, which are both important nutrients. It is also energy-dense, meaning a small amount of peanut butter contains a lot of calories. All of this means that just eating a little peanut butter will help us feel full for longer and is a great option when we need a quick energy kick.
  • North Carolina is a proud peanut growing state, growing more than 440 million pounds.
  • Peanut butter, which by law must be 90% peanuts, is the leading use of peanuts produced in the U.S. (it takes 850 peanuts to make one 18-ounce jar of peanut butter).
