It’s that time of year again- time for our annual Summer Blast program! Check out all 15 of our fantastic camps for Summer 2022!

For further details regarding registration, payment, etc. please visit the ‘Summer Blast’ heading under the ‘4-H Youth Development’ tab on our website.

All registrations will be done via 4-H Online beginning at 9 a.m. on May 3rd, 2022. Payments for classes must be received at the 4-H Office by 4 p.m. on May 31st, 2022. Payments should be made via cash or check.

Breadmaking:  Youth will learn the art of making bread through this hands-on workshop. Get ready to get your hands in dough and flour as you learn about measuring, mixing, kneading, and baking basics. Youth will make bread loaves and monkey bread pans to take home.

Magic of Electricity:  Soldering and circuits and LEDS, oh my! Learn basic soldering skills to assemble an electronic kit with the help of Stanly Community College instructor, Gary Hatley.

Soil Solutions:  Kids will learn how to take soil samples, identify different types of soil, and evaluate soil health! Join us for this single-day camp to learn all about the environment around us, including plant science, horticulture, soil, and water!

Summer Safari:  Come along for a fun day at the NC Zoo! Transportation will be provided for class attendees. Participants will need to bring money for lunch and any souvenirs that they would like.

Turf TimeDo you love rolling down grassy hills until you are dizzy and belly laughing? Do you have kids that relish the kind of turf that eases their golf ball into the hole? Then join us for our very first “Turf Time” summer camp! Youth will take soil samples, make their own “Grass Head Pets,” spray paint their own turf designs, and have plenty of hands-on fun digging in the soil!

Sewing 101Youth will learn the basics of sewing, including how to use sewing tools, how to use a sewing machine, and how to follow a pattern while making their very own sewing projects. At the conclusion, youth will leave with completed sewing projects!

Fit Kids Camp:  This three-day fit camp will take place at Gold’s Gym in Albemarle. Kids ages 8 and up will experience all kinds of exercise from local fitness instructors and personal trainers. Water bottles and snacks will be provided to all participants. Youth are expected to dress appropriately in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Parents/guardians are expected to check their child in and out each day.

Camp Crafty:  Join us for three days of fun art projects- guided painting, clay sculpting, and fiber art!

Livestock RoundUp: Livestock RoundUp is a 3 day camp where participants will learn about livestock species and management practices through hands-on learning experiences! Learn how the ruminant stomach works, how pigs are identified, how cows are milked, and so much more!! Participants are expected to wear closed toe shoes, have hair up, and come prepared to learn about livestock!

Cloverbud Exploration:  4-H’ers will explore a variety of fun topics! Youth will learn all about gardening and bugs, and even get to take home their own plants! Cloverbuds will also get the chance to learn about their communities here in Stanly County, and will learn about the importance of MyPlate through fun and interactive activities, healthy snacks, and physical movement!

From Cow to Cup- Cloverbud Dairy Camp:  Moooo-ve on over to the Agri-Civic Center to learn all about dairy cows, making butter, and how your milk goes from Cow to Cup! Campers will get to learn about different types of milks and cheeses- while sampling them along the way!

**Please note- this camp is not recommended for youth who have dairy allergies or who are lactose intolerant. Please contact the 4-H Office to discuss accommodation options.

Kids in the Kitchen:  In this camp, youth will get hands-on learning by cooking and preserving in the Extension Kitchen. They will learn basic nutrition, food safety, cooking skills, and home food preservation skills that will allow them to gain confidence in cooking more and eating healthier foods at home. Kids will receive their own cooking tools to take home! Participants are expected to wear closed toe shoes.

  • Date/Time:  July 26-28, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.
  • Ages:  8+

  • Location:  Agri-Civic Center

Farm to Table Camp:  Learn how your food goes from Farm to Table! Youth will be visiting cattle, dairy, poultry, and produce farms. After their farm visits, participants will wash-up and learn to prepare recipes using products from each of these types of farms! Youth are expected to wear closed-toe shoes. Transportation can be provided for up to 5 participants- once these 5 spaces are filled, additional participants will need to provide their own transportation.

Outdoor Adventure Camp:  This camp will be jam-packed with fun, outdoor activities! Participants will be learning all about archery, going kayaking, going hiking, and more! Youth should wear close toed shoes and clothes that are comfortable and suitable for exercise.

  • Date/Time:  August 9-11, 9 a.m. until approximately 12 p.m. each day

Run with the Pack:  Join us for a tour of Carter Finley Stadium, explore NC State’s campus, & enjoy a treat at the NC State Dairy Education Unit! Transportation will be provided for attendees. Participants will need to bring money for lunch, souvenirs, and ice cream at the NC State Creamery.
