The NC State Extension director leads the State Advisory Council (SAC) and functions on behalf of NC State Extension to advocate with government and community leaders, to market program impacts, promote development of resources, ensure relevance of programming to meet local needs, and to serve as a liaison between County Advisory Councils and state Extension administration. The State Advisory Council is made up of six representatives from each of Extension’s five districts, five state-level appointees, and one N.C. A&T State University Strategic Planning Council liaison for a total of 36 volunteers. Each member serves a three-year term and is eligible for a second three-year term for a maximum of six years of continuous service.

County Advisory Support Grant funds are provided by an assessment that is paid by each county to support the State Advisory Council. The assessment funds are only used to fund the County Advisory Support Grants, which are intended to help County Extension Directors strengthen their local advisory councils.

Guidelines:

  1. The county may request funds in September and in March only.
  2. Counties that have paid the assessments regularly in previous years will have priority.
  3. Counties are eligible to receive a grant every 4 years.
  4. The funds may only be used to support an activity or event that will further the development of the local council. Examples:
  • Holding a legislative event to engage and inform elected leaders about N.C. Cooperative Extension
  • Providing training for advisory members
  • Work as a cluster of counties to train and orient advisory members
  • Event to develop public and private partnerships
  • Holding a training retreat with advisory council members
  1. The expected range of the County Advisory Support Grant is $500 – 1000.
  2. Grant recipients will receive reimbursements when supplied with receipts and a 1-page summary of the activity or event and the results achieved.

Grant application can be found online via Google.
