Collapse ▲The new seed library in the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Stanly County office is officially open!
This program serves to provide seeds at no cost to beginners and those looking to try something new, with varieties well suited to handle the difficult climate and disease pressure of Stanly County.
The seed library is located just inside the front door to the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Stanly County office
The checkout procedure is easy!
Step 1: Select your seeds (one packet per variety please)
Step 2: Fill out the checkout form (this helps us keep track of inventory)
Step 3: Scan the QR code and answer the short questionnaire for the Horticulture Agent
The seeds are primarily vegetables to encourage home food production, with several other plants available as well. The library will never distribute invasive species.
Each packet has the following information:
Species: The botanical and common name of the plant
Variety: The cultivar in the packet (ie, ‘Chocolate Cherry’ tomato)
Warm or Cool Season: Indicates which part of the growing season the plant should be grown
Days to Maturity: Days to first production/harvest
When to Start: When to germinate the seeds
Plant Height and Width: Overall plant size
Plant Spacing: Indicates how close together they can be grown
Uses: Functional purpose of the fruit/vegetative parts
Special Notes: Additional information will be listed here!
Additional resources are available at the library to help anyone learn to grow their own food and start plants from seed.
